Yesterday I told you that I would show you how to make your own hanging file folders to fit your 12 x 12" papers and cardstocks. There are places that have this size hanging folders for sale but this way is cheaper, especially if you use old, recycled file folders.
Items you need: Enough legal sized hanging folders for your needs.
The same number of letter size file folders. (it's great to use old folders that you are recycling)
2" packing tape
scissors or paper cutter
The legal hanging folders are 9" wide. Cut these in half at the fold.
Cut the letter size folders (not hanging folders) 4" from the bottom fold. Do NOT cut this fold in half.
Place the letter folder so that it fits over the bottom of the legal folder about 1".
It doesn't really matter if the overlap is to the inside or the outside. Just as long as you overlap.
Run the 2" tape across the overlap to tape the two folders together.
I tape on the inside and the outside so that my papers or folders don't get caught in the un-taped part. This seems to work better, at least for me. You will have about 1 1/2" inset on both sides of the bottom. Your paper may stick out at this part but as long as your paper is inside a building, it's not really a worry.
Your 2 different folders can be the same color or different colors. It really doesn't matter unless that's an area that happens to be important to you. The main idea here is to try to save a bit of money on your storage. That way you have MORE money for crafting supplies like rubber stamps!
Use the plastic label tabs that come with these to label your papers. You can label by color, brand, or style. For the 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock and papers, just use the regular hanging folders.
Now let's get organized! At least for the day. lol
Very cool and creative, I am going to adhere to your advice and try and tackle this project on my own.
